Zenitel makes waves for hearing care at Lewes to Newhaven Raft Race
An afternoon of teamwork, laughter, and a splash of organised chaos saw the courageous crew from Zenitel Lewes take to the water in this year’s Lewes to Newhaven Raft Race. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the race challenged teams, including industry competitors, to design, build, and paddle their way to victory, all in the name of charity.

At 2:30 PM on Sunday, July 27th, a crowd of enthusiastic Zenitel supporters joined hundreds of spectators along the banks of Malling Recreation Ground to cheer on the nine competing teams. With two goals in mind; crossing the finish line and raising funds for RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People) Team Zenitel, dressed as Vikings, launched their raft into the River Ouse.

Channelling their Norwegian maritime roots, the team paddled hard the 7 miles toward Newhaven’s swing bridge and crossed the finish line with both objectives triumphantly achieved. Although a few technical hiccups prevented them from taking the official first place, Zenitel’s raft clocked in just 15 minutes shy of the all-time course record—and a full 25 minutes ahead of their nearest team.
Most importantly, their efforts raised a fantastic £3,500 for the RNID. RNID supports the 18 million people in the UK who are deaf or have hearing loss or tinnitus. At Zenitel, we believe everyone should be able to hear, be heard, and be understood, making this a cause close to our hearts.
A special thank you goes to Brian Gow Roofing Supplies for providing support vehicles, and warm congratulations to the official race winners on their well-deserved victory.
Zenitel is proud to have taken part in such a spirited community event—celebrating creativity, collaboration, and charitable impact. Huge thanks to the Zenitel Lewes crew and all those who came to cheer them on. Your energy, determination, and spirit made it all possible!
