The NSK 6255 Cable Lay Support Vessel (CLSV), developed for Agalas, features advanced offshore wind communication systems designed to support safe and efficient offshore operations. Representing a new generation of offshore support vessels, the NSK 6255 CLSV is purpose-built for the evolving demands of offshore wind and subsea infrastructure. Designed by NSK Ship Design and currently under construction at Sefine Shipyard, the vessel supports complex cable installation and maintenance operations.

As offshore wind farms and subsea networks continue to expand, support vessels play a central role in complex operations like fibre cable laying, trenching, inspection and repair. To support these activities, Zenitel is delivering a fully integrated communication and safety systems for the NSK 6255 CLSV.

Offshore Wind Communication Systems for Subsea Cable Operations

Cable lay support vessels play a critical role in the development of offshore wind infrastructure. They enable the installation of power export cables, support fibre optic subsea networks, and help ensure reliable grid connections between offshore wind farms and onshore facilities.

The NSK 6255 CLSV is designed as a flexible offshore platform, capable of performing cable laying, trenching, inspection, and repair operations. It also supports remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services and Walk-to-Work operations, making it a versatile asset for offshore windfarm development and maintenance.

This level of operational flexibility allows the vessel to adapt to a wide range of offshore tasks, supporting both installation and long-term infrastructure reliability.

Modern Technologies for Flexible Operations

The NSK 6255 CLSV combines advanced engineering with practical offshore functionality. With accommodation for up to 100 personnel, the vessel is built to support large crews working in demanding offshore environments.

A key feature is the 70-ton active heave compensated (AHC) crane with 3D lifting capability, enabling precise and safe handling of heavy equipment during cable operations. This capability is essential for maintaining efficiency and safety in dynamic ocean conditions.

The vessel’s hybrid design integrates a dual-fuel diesel/methanol propulsion system with battery optimization. This combination enhances operational flexibility while supporting more efficient energy use across varying operational modes.

With Sustainability in the Core of the Fuel Strategy

The dual-fuel propulsion system of the NSK 6255 CLSV enables the vessel to operate on both diesel and methanol, contributing to lower emissions compared to conventional vessels. Battery-supported energy optimization further improves efficiency by reducing fuel consumption during variable load conditions.

Together, these technologies can enable CO2 emission reductions of up to approximately 75%. This approach aligns with the offshore industry’s transition toward lower-emission operations, supporting more sustainable offshore wind development while reducing overall environmental impact.

Ensuring Safe and Efficient Operations with Zenitel’s Solutions

To enable reliable communication across all operational areas and support effective coordination during complex cable laying and lifting operations, Zenitel delivered integrated communication and safety systems for the vessel.

The delivery includes:

  • ICX-based communication system
  • SPA-V2 PAGA system
  • sound signal reception system
  • batteryless telephone system
  • LAN infrastructure
  • IP CCTV
  • IPTV

This integrated setup supports seamless communication between teams, enhances situational awareness, and contributes to more efficient vessel operations. Clear and consistent alarm distribution is also critical in offshore environments, where rapid response is essential.

Crew Safety & Welfare Onboard

With accommodation for up to 100 personnel, maintaining a safe environment the onboard NSK 6255 CLSV is essential. Zenitel’s communication systems are designed to support both operational safety and crew welfare.

A redundant communication architecture, including dual-loop systems, ensures continuous operation even in the event of system failure. The batteryless telephone system provides reliable emergency communication, independent of onboard power availability.

In addition, the IP CCTV system enhances situational awareness through real-time monitoring and incident recording. IPTV and onboard facilities further support crew comfort and welfare during extended offshore deployments.

Strong Collaboration – the Key to Project Success

The delivery of the NSK 6255 CLSV reflects close collaboration between multiple stakeholders. Agalas, NSK Ship Design, Sefine Shipyard, and Nemomarin worked together throughout the project to ensure effective execution.

Local partnership in Turkey played an important role, particularly through Nemomarin’s involvement, supporting coordination across all project phases. . This collaboration enabled alignment between vessel design, construction, and system delivery.

The NSK 6255 CLSV represent a modern offshore support vessel, purpose-built for the growing demands of offshore wind and subsea infrastructure. Its advanced design, operational flexibility, and lower-emission fuel strategy position it as a relevant asset in the transition toward more sustainable energy systems.

Zenitel’s integrated communication and safety systems support reliable operations, enhance crew safety, and contribute to onboard welfare.
